Enrolling a Kindergarten Student

A kindergarten enrollee must meet the criteria for entering public school. There are specific age requirements mandated by State and District policy for entry into school. Students must be 5 years of age by Aug 31st to register and enroll in HomeLink classes (Board Policy 5035).

Out of District Variance - Choice Transfer

Students who live outside of the LSSD boundary may enroll unless variances to HomeLink are suspended by the School District. 

• Contact the HomeLink registrar to discuss most current enrollment opportunities
  • If openings are available, contact your resident School District office or OSPI Choice Transfer Portal to request a Choice Transfer.
  • Submit the LSSD Student Enrollment packet to the HomeLink Office/Registrar.
• The choice transfer/variance request and LSSD Student Enrollment/ registration paperwork will be reviewed together.

Admission of Non-Resident Students

If you live outside of the Lake Stevens School District boundaries and want to attend a Lake Stevens school, you can apply for a Choice Transfer Request. Full details of procedures for acceptance and denial are listed in School Board Policy 5020 and under WAC 392-137-195.

Registration Packets

• New student Registration Packet - Lake Stevens School District Enrollment packet
• New student HomeLink forms are available in the HomeLink office or electronically.
• Returning HomeLink students' annual District & HomeLink ALE forms are available in the HomeLink office or electronically.

HomeLink does not offer a full-time Kindergarten program. Per ALE guidelines, Kindergartners may only enroll up to half time.

Additional items to be submitted with a new student enrollment packet:

• Birth Certificate - official copy, not the keepsake provided by the hospital
• Proof of Immunization - Medically verified Certificate of Immunization Status (CIS Form)
  • CIS signed by a doctor or health care provider
  • CIS filled out and signed by parent with medical records attached
  • CIS from MyIR.net - print your family's official records from any device
  • CIS printed from the state immunization system by a healthcare provider
• Supplemental Health History documentation  - Students identified with a life-threatening health condition or severe allergy must submit a Health Care Plan or Allergy Assessment prior to the first day of classes. Visit the LSSD Health Services webpage for forms and guidance.
• Proof of Residence - i.e. lease agreement or rental agreement, utility bill or property tax statement
• OUT OF DISTRICT
  • New families must contact the office to verify availability prior to requesting a Variance/Choice transfer.
    • If space is available at HomeLink, submit a Choice Transfer request between your resident school district and Lake Stevens School District.
    • Submit a completed Student Enrollment Registration packet to the HomeLink office/registrar.
    • Variance requests and LSSD enrollment packets will be reviewed together.

Please read the checklist of necessary documentation carefully, because students cannot be enrolled until ALL paperwork has been verified. When registration and health records have been approved, parents will be notified by the school registrar.
